Cut to depth
Excavated to the depth the utility requires — electrical, water and irrigation all differ, and frost and traffic loading matter.

Keep it clean
Spoil kept on one side and the trench kept true so whoever is laying the line has an easy run.

Backfill and restore
Backfilled in compacted layers with correct bedding around the line, then topsoil and seed so the scar disappears.
What affects your price
Driven by length, depth, soil conditions, whether rock is encountered and how the surface has to be restored. Trenching through established lawn costs more than open ground because of the restoration.
