Gravel Driveway Installation & Repair

A gravel driveway is a structure, not a layer of stone. Done properly it is a compacted sub-base, a graded crown or cross-fall to shed water, and a wearing course of crush run on top. Done improperly it is gravel tipped onto clay, which is why so many of them turn to mud and potholes inside a year.

We install new gravel drives, rebuild failed ones, regrade and re-stone tired ones, and cut in extensions, turnarounds and parking pads across metro Atlanta.

How the job runs

   Assess what is there

   On an existing drive we work out whether it needs a full rebuild or whether regrading and fresh stone will genuinely solve it. We will tell you if the cheaper option is the right one.

   Shape the sub-base

   The ground is cut, shaped and compacted, with a crown or cross-fall built in so water sheds off rather than running along it.

   Handle the water

   Where a drive crosses a ditch or collects runoff, a culvert or a drain goes in. Water is the thing that destroys gravel drives.

4. 4

   Stone in layers

   Larger base stone first where it is needed, then crush run as the wearing course, each layer compacted.

   Compact and finish

   Rolled and dressed to a clean, even surface with proper edges so the stone stays where you paid to put it.

What affects your price

Why it's different in Georgia

Red clay and 50 inches of rain a year are exactly the conditions that expose a missing base. Water gets under the stone, the clay turns plastic, and the gravel disappears into it. Building a compacted base and getting the cross-fall right is what makes a Georgia gravel drive last.
